Bully Pulpit

Speak at us, one and all
Tell us a story
A tale of good and evil
Speak of the nonsense plight
of an imaginary slighted class

Push us along the path
until we all understand
Make us see what you see
with blatant disregard
Nothing that came before
any longer carries weight
Only the here and now
is important

Speak to us; all of us
Whisper a fable in our ear
A tale of us and them
Talk about the imaginary interlopers
who threaten our way of life

Ride us, day and night
until we finally break
Change our point of view
with miserable charisma
Those who dare to diverge
from the newly beaten path
will fall by the wayside
in the years to come

Beat us over the head
with visions of yesterday
Cram it down our throats
until we have no other choice

A bully is a bully
no matter what he is called
A tyrant is a tyrant
regardless of the context

Speak at us, one and all
Tell us everything will be all right
Your captive audience, we’ll listen
until too much time has passed
to rectify our mistake
